AUTO PAINTS PRODUCTION
There are many systems employed in making auto base paints. These include the kenotic medium also known as the synthetic auto paint and the nitrocellulose base known as the auto cellulose paints. These names however are not scientific and depends on the maker.
Raw Materials
The raw materials for auto paints vary depending on the type and choice of the manufacturer. However they include materials as defined here:
PAINTS = Binder + Pigment + Additives.
1. Resins | 2. Solvents (Corresponding) | 3. Addictive (Corresponding) |
Alkyd 6070, 6770 etc | Toluene, Eylene | Driers, Meko |
Phenolic Resin | Toluene, Eylene | Driers, Meko |
Maleic Resin | Toluene, Butanol | Silicon Oil |
Nitrocellulose Resin (Chips) AK 427 | MIBK, MEK, ETHYL, ACETATE | DOP, IPA |
Stabilite Resin | MIBK, MEK, Toluene | Easy Gel, Silicon Oil |
Ester Gum Resin | MIBK, Toluene, MIBK | Easy Gel, Silicon Oil |
Urea Formaldehyde Resin | MIBK, Toluene, MIBK | Easy Gel, Silicon Oil |
Polyamid Resin | Butyl Glycol, IPA, NBA | Easy Gel, Silicon Oil |
Uralac Resin | Normal Butanol | Silicon Oil, Dispersant |
Ployester Resin | Butyl Glycol, MIBK | DOP, MEF |
Ketonic Resin | Butyl Glycol, MIBK or Ethyl Acetate | Or others |
Note: Most auto paints are paints made with 50% of the normal medium needed for painting. The car may to be varnished or coated with a clear lacquer or vanish which is just the medium used to make the car paint that has been separately packed.
